Travis the Rescue Cat
Eugene Pierson grew up on a farm in Nebraska where he attended a one-room school for eight years with six other students. In high school he had twenty-seven classmates and was selected for boys state representative for his school. He later received a Union Pacific scholarship to the University of Nebraska, where he graduated with a BS degree; and later in his career in the pharmaceutical industry, he attended night school for an MBA from Seton Hall University. He served two years of active duty in the US Navy and is a Korean veteran. Eugene retired from an executive position in medical communication at sixty-five and formed his own company, Pharm Out, as a consultant where he traveled extensively to Europe and Southeast Asia. After several years, he retired again but took a forty-hour class to become a security officer; he now works nights at the age of eighty-seven. While patrolling at night, he was inspired by his rescue cat, Travis, to write a story about his actions and had it illustrated for publication as a picture book for children. Travis the Rescue Cat will be continued in a series of children's books.
