How long does editing my book take?
As with all our publishing processes, the time it takes depends entirely on you as the author. While the initial edit may take 2-4 weeks to complete, you will be provided a copy of the revision to review, approve, and request changes. This process continues until you approve the completed work, ensuring you are content with the final product.
Can you edit a book that is written in Spanish?
Yes, we have Spanish editors to review your manuscript.
What if I trust my editor? Can I approve all changes to speed up the process?
We think our editors are fantastic too! That said, we still want you to review their edits before approving. You might not want to use serial (or Oxford) commas, but our editors would make that edit because they follow The Chicago Manual of Style. Also, if you approve the revisions and find something later, that could delay the process and incur additional costs.
Can my friend edit my book?
A friend could review an early draft before submitting your manuscript, but a professional editor should still review it. Our editors are publishing experts and use industry-standard resources, like The Chicago Manual of Style. Your friend may be a grammar expert, but the more varied people who look at your manuscript, the higher the quality will be.
Why is editorial quality so important?
Readers expect a certain level of quality in a professionally published book. Not meeting that expectation can harm an author’s reputation. We want all our authors to put their best foot (or book) forward.
Can I talk to my editor?
Your Publication Coordinator serves as the liaison between the author and editor. Having a trained and experienced person handling all communication is ideal. Our specialist and technical staff, like editors, designers, and marketers, focus only on their specialty and do not engage directly with authors.
Why do I have to review the edits?
Our editors are skilled but also human, or they might make a change you disagree with. We set this time aside for you to put your final touches on your manuscript before the book goes into production.
