A Different Look at the Business World
As the name implies, this book takes a different look at the business world—the real-world part, which can also be described as the street smart part of the job. To thrive and survive in today’s competitive and ever-changing business environment takes more than just knowing how to do the job.
There are a lot of books written about the business world authored by present or former business executives and also college professors. These books are good reads and cover a number of interesting topics, to include theoretical concepts relating to the various business disciplines. This book is meant to compliment what these authors have to say from a different point of view.
This book is written by a retired middle-class guy who entered the business world while attending college and who learned how things really worked by actually doing the job during the day and attending night, Saturday, and summer classes.
The author gives advice, states opinions, makes some suggestions, and tells some stories. The book is written in a low-keyed, easy-to-read, and noncondescending way that gives you, the up-and-coming businessperson, some things to think about.
This book does not pull any punches when it comes to real-world scenarios and various examples of some crazy stuff that actually happens. In addition, the author goes beyond specific business-related issues and discusses various concerns about the future, to include certain political and social issues that affect the business world in negative ways.
After reading this book, there is an excellent chance you will also look at the business world in a different way and have a different perspective of different aspects of the job throughout your career.
