The Plumes
As Matt and Dennis headed for the kitchen, the office phone rang and Dennis veered off to answer it, Matt going on to the kitchen. "Hey, ladies, how's it going back here? I see you put another gal on the payroll. We are going to be overrun by women pretty soon."
"Let's face it, Matt, if you want a kitchen to run smoothly, you need women. Granted, a crack male chef is a moneymaker but he is also a curmudgeon with the help. There is an old saying that you can get more done with sugar than with vinegar. Would you like something to eat before I close this down completely?"
"Sure, and I would imagine Den would, also. He is on the phone right now but he should be free in a couple of minutes. What have you got that won't take too long? I am literally famished."
"Hot or cold? You name it, I'll have it ready in a jif," smiled Cher.
"Me, too, and where is Ellie?" asked Dennis, poking his head into the kitchen.
"She went upstairs to change her blouse. She splashed salad dressing on it right at the last moment and wanted to change before anyone else came in and in the event you wanted to leave, Dennis. She didn't want to work the bar looking like a fresh salad. You guys go sit down and I will have something out for you pronto."
