Trojan Horses
"Trojan Horses" is not just a title but a two word description of the story. Horse and dog thieves came to the region devastated by Hurricane Katrina telling survivors and humane volunteers they were there to help. Unfortunately, they only came to help themselves to animals they would sell into dog fighting rings and to slaughterhouses.
When a middle aged widow drives a thousand miles just to deliver hay to the Gulf Coast area, she had no idea she would wind up playing an integral role or that she would encounter bullets, bandits and bureaucrats who were not equipped to handle the monumental task left in the wake of the storm. This is a 'behind the scenes look' of individual sacrifices and how lives across the nation were effected as volunteers flood Jackson, MS, and hundreds of other cities where survivors try to reconstruct their lives but that included locating beloved pets feared lost or injured and alone.
From the first page to the exciting stampede to freedom, people went above and beyond for strangers all drawn together by a hurricane that made an incredible difference in lives long after the winds and water had receded.
