Vanishing Lady

The second time Steve Fraser tried to find the missing woman, it seemed as if he wasn't going to have any more luck than he'd had the first time. That had been two years before up in San Francisco. An upâ€"andâ€"coming comic named Howard Franklin hired him then to find his missing wife, Sally Baxter Franklin. After a few days, Steve bowed out because Franklin couldn't afford to keep him on the job. Now it was two years later, and Franklin was a smash TV sensation, and he had more than enough money to rehire Steve to pick up the search where he'd left offâ€"except it was two years later, and the trail was a lot colder than it had been at the start.
