West of the River Odra

This book includes two autobiographical essays on the postwar generation in the Lower Silesian towns of Swieradow-Zdroj and Lwowek Slaski.

Memories of Swieradow-Zdroj are the treasure of my life, and they bear me as on bird-wings into a sunny day. I see a girl with her toboggan amid crowds of children on the hill by River Street. I remember the taste of berries gathered in a forest.: Try some...please. I smell roses in the park where the springs are. Smiling, I scattered leaves raked up as bedding for sheep.
